Make sure you Verify

Alright we are almost there- Step six of B.E.L.I.E.V.E., you need to Verify, and set goals. Ok, I feel like I say this about every step, but this one is just as important as any of the other steps. Let me start by saying that no one knows someone like they know themselves. I’m very motivated by math and very competitive- so you may have to tweak things to what works best for you. I am a big believer that winners keep score, and we all want to be winners in money!

Start by setting very specific goals. For example, if I had the goal of paying off $350 of debt this month (that breaks down to $87.50 a week.) I would challenge myself to save a certain amount each day or each week and I’d put the money straight to the debt. I would almost always end up exceeding my goal by a lot. This has worked amazingly for me, but I know not everyone wants to think about it this much. To be successful you need to challenge yourself, so make sure your goals are not super easy. You need to feel uncomfortable so you can stay out of this situation in the future.
